Aquarium Rocks & Stone in Broken Arrow, OK

Rock gives your aquarium its shape, its caves and its character. We stock a wide range of aquascaping stone, and much of it is sold by the pound, so you can pick the exact pieces your layout needs. Browse what is in stock, then read the quick guide below on which stone leaves your water alone and which one changes it.

Choosing the right rock for your tank

Inert stone works in almost any tank

Dragon Stone, lava rock, slate and similar stone leave your water chemistry alone. They are the safe starting point for planted tanks, community tanks and shrimp tanks.

Some stone hardens your water on purpose

Seiryu stone, Texas holey rock and other calcium-rich stone slowly raise pH, KH and GH. That helps African cichlids and livebearers, but it can cause trouble in a soft-water or shrimp tank.

Test a rock in ten seconds

Put a few drops of vinegar on it. If it fizzes, it contains carbonate and will harden your water. No fizz usually means the rock is inert. When in doubt, bring it in and we will test it with you.

Scrub it, do not boil it

Rinse and scrub new rock under running water with no soap. Do not boil rock: trapped moisture can turn to steam and crack or burst it. To deal with hitchhikers, let the rock dry out completely for a few days instead.

Common questions

What rocks are safe for a freshwater aquarium?

Most natural rock is safe as long as it is clean and free of metal streaks, paint or oily coatings. Inert stone such as Dragon Stone, lava rock and slate is the easiest choice because it does not change your water.

Do aquarium rocks change pH?

Some do. Calcium-rich stone like Seiryu and Texas holey rock raises pH and hardness over time. Inert stone like lava rock, Dragon Stone and slate leaves your water alone.

Should I boil aquarium rocks?

No. Boiling can crack or burst a rock and is a real injury risk. Scrub it under running water, and let it dry completely for several days if you are worried about pests.

What rocks are best for a shrimp tank?

Stick with inert stone such as Dragon Stone, lava rock or slate. Skip Seiryu and other hardness-raising stone unless you have tested it in a bucket first.

Can I pick out my own pieces?

Yes. Much of our stone is sold by the pound, so come in and choose the pieces that fit your layout. Bring your tank dimensions and we will help you plan the scape.

Not sure what fits your tank?

Bring your tank size and what you keep in it, and we will help you choose.

Absolutely love Fins for Grins! If you’re looking for healthy, quality fish and beautiful aquatic plants, this is the place. Every fish I’ve purchased has been healthy, active, and thriving. Their aquatic plant selection is incredible and such great quality compared to big box stores. What really sets them apart though is the staff. Everyone has been so kind, patient, and genuinely knowledgeable every time I’ve gone in. You can tell they truly care about the hobby and helping people succeed with their tanks. So thankful to have a local fish store like this in Broken Arrow. Highly recommend!

This is the Blessed Fish Store in Tulsa. They've got an excellent selection of aquascape materials and amazing customer service, and the owners are just excellent people. They help take care of our tank, a 185-gallon tank at our office. I bought a lot of fish and supplies for my 90-gallon tank at home.

What a perfect gem. Michelle helped me tremendously today with picking out a new fish for my established 40G planted. Helped me brainstorm some ideas and if I wanted to choose schooling or not. I chose to stick with what I know and took home a Flame Gourami, as my prior old Pearl Gourami passed. All of the staff are incredibly knowledgeable and their stock is fantastic. Healthy, happy freshwater fishes and plants. She also helped me pick out some new background plants that are hearty and add a gorgeous pop of green to the tank. Overall very happy with the money and time spent and can’t wait to see their expansion and all of the new tanks they will be adding. The retail side is also fantastic, everything you could need for maintenance/filtration/cleaning/medication. They also sell tanks and filters. If they don’t have it, they will order it. Skip the big box stores, this is your one stop shop. They will have my patronage from here on out.

Fins for Grins is my new "Shopping Therapy Place"-- taking over for the big Supercenters--and actually significantly cutting back on my spending! I love just browsing, enjoying the numerous, beautiful fish and learning from the knowledgeable staff. Michelle is so welcoming, eventhough I feel like I am constantly asking questions--sometimes the same questions over and over! Every time I leave the store, I look forward to returning home to enjoy my now 4, thriving aquariums! BIKINI BOTTOM, POOH CORNER, THE FISH FAMILY, and SNOOPY'S PLACE "resident fish , 🐌 snails & 🪴 plants" (all named by me but remembered by Michelle & Ray and all the staff every time I talk about Eeyore and friends or Snoopy, Spongebob, or Gary and all 35 of them) are my favorite "pets" of my adult life. Thanks for sharing my fun! A big 5 Star smile for FINS for Grins!
