Plant care supplies
Fertilizer, CO2, and accessories to keep plants growing.
Choosing plants that will actually thrive
Light is the first decision. A basic aquarium light supports hardy plants like anubias, java fern, and mosses. Stronger light opens up stem plants and carpets, and those usually go hand in hand with fertilizer and sometimes CO2.
Match the plant to where it lives
Rhizome plants such as anubias and java fern should be tied or glued to wood or rock, not buried, because burying the rhizome can rot it. Root feeders such as sword plants like substrate and root tabs. Floating plants sit at the surface and soak up nutrients straight from the water.
Give new plants a good start
Rinse and inspect every plant, remove damaged leaves, and keep lighting steady for the first few weeks. Some melting after a move is normal for many species while they adjust to new water.

Aquarium plant questions
Do I need CO2 or special lighting to grow aquarium plants?
Not for every plant. Hardy plants such as anubias, java fern, and many mosses grow well in low to moderate light without added CO2. Stem plants and carpeting plants usually want stronger light and, in many tanks, CO2 and fertilizer. Tell us your light and tank size and we will point you to plants that fit.
What are the easiest aquarium plants for beginners?
Anubias, java fern, java moss, and vallisneria are common first plants because they tolerate a range of conditions. We cover more picks in our beginner plant guide.
Do aquarium plants need fertilizer?
Many do. Plants that take nutrients through their roots, such as swords, usually benefit from root tabs, while plants that feed mostly from the water column benefit from a liquid fertilizer. Hardy plants that attach to wood or rock can often get by on fish waste alone.
Will plants carry snails or algae into my tank?
They can. Hitchhiker snails and algae spores sometimes arrive on any plant from any source. Rinse new plants, inspect them, and consider a short quarantine before adding them to a display tank.
Can I pick up plants in store or have them shipped?
Both. You can pick up at our Broken Arrow store, and available items can be ordered online. Call 918-578-9142 if you want us to confirm a specific plant before you drive over.
